Oregon’s Rural Health Transformation Program: RFPG now open

The Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) was established through the federal budget reconciliation bill to support rural health system transformation and expand access to care. Eligible organizations can now propose their innovate projects for a competitive Oregon Rural Health Transformation Program funding pool known as the Catalyst Awards. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) expects to grant a total of about $80 million per year for up to two years, pending federal approval, toward Catalyst Award-supported projects.

Catalyst Awards will be given to projects that are ready to launch within two months of receiving funding and address at least one of the following areas: maternal and child health; co-occurring behavioral health conditions; aging in place; and chronic disease. Project proposals will be accepted through May 26.

OHA has also announced that a dozen projects are expected to receive RHTP funding through immediate impact awards totaling $6.5 million. This funding will support healthcare professional training, mental health and substance use prevention, support for people managing chronic disease, and more. The nine Federally Recognized Tribes of Oregon are also expected to receive $21.7 million through the program’s Tribal Initiative to improve Tribal healthcare access and health outcomes.
